What does gaming journalism need to be taken seriously?
0Over the years, I’ve heard people argue and voice their opinions that videogame journalism needs to be taken seriously, as do games in general. Many people in society still consider games to be something meant for kids and arcades, despite many games receiving content ratings listing them for mature audiences.
Fall TV line up
0The past few years, I’ve been watching three shows: Heroes, House and Smallville.
Heroes and House are great, but Smallville has rapidly become a shitfest in recent years. I keep telling myself that I’ll quit watching, but I think this will be the year. Lana is gone, Lex is gone (or will be after a few initial episodes), Clark and Lois (who is awful, btw) are supposed to start having romantic interests in each other.
Niftiness
0So a month or so ago, my dad got remarried. As a gift for my duties as best man, I received a digital picture frame. In the past I’d seen them, but they never really held my interest. After receiving one, my opinion on these has changed.
I received a Sony S-Frame. The best part about this is that it works with very little set up. Really, you can work this without any setup. Plug it in, turn it on, connect it to your computer with a USB cable, and it’ll pop up on your computer like any other USB device. Drag your photos over, disconnect the cable and you’re set. Of course, you can then choose to customize whether it should show a clock, calendar, neither, what type of transitions to do between photos, etc.
The quality is high, with a crisp displace and a good contrast ratio.
Of course, you don’t have to use it for photos.

It’s back
0So after a year of being offline, I think due to issues with our host and deprecated versions of PHP and MySQL, the gallery is back. Click that little tab at the top of the page and you can once again view the images.
A little known fact: Most of the traffic to RMo, up until the gallery went offline, was from users in Japan linking to images of Koda Kumi, a Japanese pop star, that I took and posted up in the gallery.
In the 8 months or so since my last post I’ve quit my game reviews, have focused more on my Japanese language classes, and been playing games for enjoyment, not just for work. I’ve been in two weddings, have booked a trip to Japan the first week of December 2008, and that’s about it.
An anecdote
0I remember back in 2000 or 2001, some friends and I were heading down to South Padre Island here in Texas. We stopped at a gas station to fill up and buy some snacks; I went to use the restroom.
So, I go into the bathroom, take a leak, then I wash my hands. Next to the sink, mounted about eye level is some weird thing I’d never seen before. I lean closer to it and look at the hole, only to be blasted with air freshener in my eye. Sonuvabitch, that hurt.
