Round one: Fight!

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD RemixAfter much wait, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix (SPFIITHDR for short?) finally has a release date for Xbox Live Arcade: 9:00 a.m. GMT (2:00 a.m. PDT) Wednesday, August 29, 2007.

I’ve been a fan of the game since I first played it at an arcade, then later on the Dreamcast. I’ve been following the release of this game since it was announced for XBLA, and finally got some hands-on time with it at this year’s E3. Strangely, I only saw the PS3 version to demo. I’m sure the 360 one is play the same, but with a horrid d-pad implementation.

I also got to play a Capcom employee and show off my skills as I won a few rounds against him, while asking some questions about the game, and Capcom happenings in general.

I’ve always been a fan of puzzle games, with Dr. Mario being my favorite of all time. Tetris never wowed me as it did the rest of the world, and it still doesn’t. I have respect for the game and creator Alexey Pajitnov and what their contribution to gaming.

I think it’s because I find the pacing to be so much slower than most other puzzle games I’ve played. Perhaps I should clarify: The multiplayer modes in the original Tetris always seemed slow and dull to me.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix comes out Wednesday, and I’ll be one of the first to buy the game. Now I’ll need to go spend $50 or so on another wireless 360 controller so I can do some local multiplayer. =(
