I went to school in a small East Texas town. About two weeks before I moved from Houston to Japan, my roommate had a sushi party for some of his friends from school. Seeing as how I lived with him at the time, I was able to participate, so long as I helped with the cooking and prep. Other than a drive from Houston to Nacogdoches, and a flight from Houston to Japan, I really have not had much chance to relax. The past month or so has been a blur. Things I’ve had to do include:
For my trip, I had been debating whether or not to upgrade my flight on Continental from economy to BusinessFirst. I’m glad I did, and here’s why. I had three checked bags, a carry-on and a briefcase. The checked bags fees were as follows:
My bags included one 35 lb bag, one 61 and one 62 lb. That would’ve been $300 or so in bag fees! My upgrade was $500 + 25,000 mile or something, so I opted for that. If I hadn’t, I would’ve been in a middle seat for the 14-hr flight. And I may not have sat next to the cute girl who kept me company. Continue reading Beginning the journey in Japan
June 2009 when I was getting ready to leave for Japan and Korea is when I last posted. Now, Feb. 25, 2009, I am getting ready to make another trip to Japan, but this time to move there. It’s pretty crazy.
In the meantime I’ve made another trip to Panama (those pics will be coming, I swear!), gotten a job in Japan and more. As soon as I get internet in Japan at my apartment, I’ll begin posting regularly (my goal is once a week) with lots of pictures.
I’ve gone ahead and paid for an account with SmugMug, so I won’t have to manage the gallery anymore on my own, though that will still stay live on this site for the time to come. And now it’s unlimited photo storage!
In just a few days, I shall depart for my maiden voyage to Korea, followed by a return visit to Tokyo. I detailed the details over here. I must note in advance I probably will not take as many pics in Tokyo as I usually do. This is because I already know what the city looks like. Korea may yield some pictures though.

Offended? Oh well. I had some dim sum last night with my roommate and his girlfriend. The last time I had some was spring of 2001. I definitely won’t wait again to have some. The three of us got stuffed for $30 at dinner time. I wish all food could be as cheap as what we have in Chinatown.
We dined for an hour or two, then headed out to a nearby dessert store to get some cake. I picked up the most incredible looking black forest cake. And the care taken at the place reminded me of what I’d find in Japan. We picked three different slices for take-out. The girl helping us pulled out a clear, plastic container to stick them in. That alone was nice enough, but then she pulled out a branded paper shopping bag to put that in. It was more extravagant than I expected, but very nice.
Sorry, I don’t have any pictures this time, but the next time I dine at one of those I’ll make sure to take some photographs.
